Tattoos… body art or a form of rebellion?  Taken to the extreme they can be a statement of ones thoughts or beliefs, but in moderation these ink drawings are nothing more than works of art displayed on the human body.

Tattoos are the most common way of expressing yourself.  Whenever someone goes to get a tattoo, they have a reason most of the time and they want to show the world something that is meaningful to them.  Whether it is a relative or friend that has passed, a group or club you belong to, or even just a significant phrase that gets someone through each day, every tattoo has a different story behind it. But should these tattoos be displayed as art or seen as rebellion?

I believe they should be shown off just like any other piece of artwork.  Many people portray their life struggles and happiness on their body.  They take a lot of time deciding what to get on their bodies and they also spend hundreds if not thousands of dollars every year on them.  There is also a small portion of people who get tattoos and decide later on that they do not want them and then end up spending more money getting them removed.  Although some people make bad choices when it comes to tattoos, you should get to know someone before you judge them and their body art.  Just because they have tattoos doesn’t mean they are rebellious or want to freak people out, it just means they have a certain way of expressing themselves.

There are people who take tattoos to the extreme however.  Some will cover themselves from head to toe in tattoos to make them look like a certain animal or even just to have a lot of different works of art on their body.  Certain Eastern tribes and religions practice in marking the body with images of their spiritual beliefs and ritualistic depictions.  Tattoos like these are socially acceptable in some areas, but I do not believe that having your entire body filled with ink is healthy.

Any way you look at it, tattoos are a form of art that should be appreciated for their unique qualities.  Just like paintings, they can mean a lot to one person but nothing to another.  Every person has their own taste and their own story to tell.  Tattoos are just one more way of telling the world where you have been and what kind of person you are.

Tattoos are the most common way for someone to express themselves.  Tattoos should be something that is thought out and not just something you get at the spur of the moment.  When someone makes the decision to get a tattoo, they usually have a good reason for getting it.  Whether it is a relative or a friend that has passed on, a group or club you belong to, or even just a significant phrase that gets you through each day, every tattoo has a different story behind it.  The controversy behind these works of art is if they should be proudly displayed as such or hidden and seen as rebellion.

I believe that a person’s tattoos should be shown off just like any other piece of artwork.  Many people depict their life struggles and stories on their body.  They take a lot of time deciding what to get on their bodies and they also spend hundreds if not thousands of dollars every year on them.  Although some people make bad choices when it comes to tattoos, you should get to know someone before you judge them based on their body art.  Just because someone has tattoos doesn’t mean they are rebellious or want to cause a scene, it just means they have their own way of expressing themselves.

There are many people however that like to take tattoos to the extreme.  Some will cover themselves from head to toe in them to resemble a certain animal or even just to be completely covered with tattoos.  People like this make others with a conservative amount of tattoos look as if they are freaks as well.  Certain Eastern tribes and religions practice in marking the body with images of their spiritual beliefs and ritualistic depictions.  Tattoos like these are socially acceptable in some areas, but I do not believe that having your entire body filled with ink is healthy for anyone.
